English Hentai Doujinshi
Hentai doujinshi is a very Japanese invention and, as such, is almost always seen in Japanese language. While some mainstream hentai comics have been brought over to English speaking countries and translated, most doujinshi has been largely unknown to western audiences. The advent of scanlations, where print manga from Japan is scanned into a computer by fan groups and translated into English, has been slowly changing this. Now popular douinshi are being found by fans an made available in their language online. This has led to some doujin artists building a name outside of their home territory.
There is another facet of this issue which is worthy of consideration. That is hentai doujinshi actually created by western artists in English. Not surprisingly, as the idea of doujinshi spreads in general, western artists interested in fan fiction, and drawing, are getting in on it. It should, then, come as little surprise that those desiring to draw hentai works would do the same with their favorite characters from mainstream properties. While most western hentai doujinshi is freely distributed online, some do attempt to sell on doujin download sites that cater to English speaking audiences. At present, though, these, for obvious copyright reasons in the western world, don’t allow parodies of protected properties.
