Lolicon Hentai Doujinshi
The lolicon genre of hentai doujinshi has always been one that raised many eyebrows. While it is perfectly legal in Japan to show cartoon depictions of children, all the way down to toddler ages, in X-rated situations, in many countries, the viewing of lolicon artwork could get someone thrown in jail. Because the nature of doujin works is to take popular characters from mainstream properties and parody them in adult situations, popular franchises like Card Captor Sakura, in which most characters are around ten years old, are regularly given the hentai doujinshi treatment. Another popular show, Neon Genesis Evangelion, which features characters in their early teens, also falls into this category of hentai.
Doujinshi featuring lolicon artwork is considered little more than artistic expression in Japan. It is no more censored than any other hentai artwork and it all appears together on the doujin download sites prevalent in that country. In many countries, though, lolicon work will not be appearing at all because it is considered obscene and is often illegal. This has led to most lolicon artwork and hentai doujinshi being sought out on the internet. There are plenty of sites, often hosted in countries where it is not banned, that are devoted to the art form. Although it may become obscure in some places, its proliferation online is such as to insure that it will always be around.
